Samaria Gorge is the oldest National Park and nature reserve of Crete. If you are not able to hike through the National Park of Crete Samaria Gorge for health reasons (for those who cannot walk downhill for a long period of time or have knee issues), you can go by ferry from the coastal Village Paleochora to the village "Agia Roumeli". This car free village is only accessible by ferry and it is the exit (bottom) of the Samaria Gorge. From Agia Roumeli it is only a short walk of 1 hour through the famous most narrow place (The Iron Gate) of the Samaria Gorge. We call this tour the Lazy-Tour Samaria.
