Visit VAI BEACH
At the farthest point of the eastern coast of Crete lies Vai Beach, also known as Palm Beach, home to the Cretan Date Palm (Phoenix theophrasti). This exotic sandy beach with white sand extends at the end of the palm forest and offers beautiful cobalt waters, ideal for snorkeling. It is recommended to visit the beach early or late in the summer, as it can be very busy during the high season.
The RICHTIS GORGE
The entrance to the Richtis Gorge is located in the traditional village of Exo Mouliana, which is situated on the national road between
Agios Nikolaos and
Sitia, and ends at the secluded Richtis Beach, east of the village Kalavros. The hiking trail is about 4 km long. Along the way, you can observe rich vegetation (mainly plane trees, wild berries, and local flowers and herbs) and wildlife (primarily local butterfly species, small reptiles, birds, and small mammals), as well as old stone bridges and water mills. The trail culminates in the Richtis Waterfall and Beach, making the Richtis Gorge trail one of the most diverse hiking experiences in Crete.
