Kaliva Residence is located in Kalyves, a seaside village on the north coast of Crete that has retained its original character and local lifestyle. Kalyves village has two excellent sandy beaches. The first is just a 4-minute walk from our villa, the other just an 8-minute walk. Both beaches are equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, and you will find a wide selection of seaside tavernas offering great meals. Many more sandy beaches can be found in the area, which is just a short drive away.
The villa is ideally located close to the village center, where you will find several small traditional shops, such as butchers, grocery stores and of course bakeries famous for their excellent cheese and spinach pies. There are several tavernas, either by the sea or in the village square, as well as supermarkets, ceramic and jewelry shops, banks, post office, doctor, dentist and pharmacy.
No car is required during your stay at the villa. Sandy beaches, taverns, supermarket, grocery store, bakery etc. are less than 5 minutes walk away. The villa is a great choice for a car-free holiday.
If you want to explore Crete, however, you will need to rent a car. The villa is 15 minutes (drive time) from
Chania and 40 minutes (drive time) from Rethymno. In both towns you will find a Venetian old town and a port, and a wide range of activities are offered. In these towns there are bars, cafes, restaurants, shops, museums and many archaeological sites.
