We are often asked what is the optimal time of year for a holiday on Crete. As you suspect, we cannot give you a general recommendation here. The only important thing is that you correctly assess your needs when planning your vacation. Anyone who flies to Crete to swim should not start their journey before the end of May (except for a few people who have tried the North and Baltic Seas). The daytime temperatures are very pleasant even in April and early May. But it cools down well at night, so it just takes time for the sea to reach its temperature. On the other hand, once the sea heats up, good swimming conditions can be found until November.
