Facilities
The spacious resort with a total of 128 rooms is embedded in a beautiful garden and consists of a main building and 12 annex-buildings. Wi-Fi is included. The Hotel Irini Mare comes wiht a lobby with an English-speaking reception (open 24 hours) with a bar with a veranda with a wonderful view over the bay and the sea, luggage room, small library and a free camera-monitored parking lot. The modern non-smoking buffet restaurant with 3 show cooking stations and outdoor terrace with old olive trees invites to linger. The well-tended garden offers more than 30 different native herbs and flowers. The tea corner at the breakfast buffet offering fresh herbs from the Cretan, botanical garden with typical mountain tea, thyme, oregano and lavender. Fruits and vegetables come from the Messara plateau region ( the inland of Agia Galini).
Around the two large salt water swimming pools (one of them with jacuzzi) in the large garden comes with palm trees, Olive and carob trees. The pools are cleaned on an ecological basis by a salt electrolysis system. The pools are enriched with magnesium, which is especially good for hair, skin and health. There is also a children's pool in the garden, as well as a pool bar with a sun terrace and lawn. Loungers are available free of charge, pool towels are available for a deposit. Loungers on the beach are available for a fee through local providers.
Out of respect for the natural beauty of the landscape, umbrellas are largely avoided but you can enjoy the natural shade of palm and acacia trees that have grown here since the hotel opened. The large olive tree next to the children's playground is over 100 years old.

In the mornings every guest is greeted by a deliciousbreakfast buffet, including among other things granola, fresh fruit, eggs, cheese, sausage and juices, in our pleasant, air-conditioned restaurant. To satisfy the small appetite between the meals, cold and warm snacks are offered at the bar directly at the pool for reasonable prices during lunchtime. The Greek evening buffet composed of cold and warm starters, fresh salads, fish, meat, poultry, traditional Cretan and vegetarian meals as well as delicious desserts will be ready for you in the evenings at dinner-time.
Entertainment / Worth to See - Sightseeing
Excursions Matala, Zaros, Lendas, Agia Galini, The public transportation in the South of Crete is not well developed. If you want explore Crete, a rental car on the south coast is a MUST. Hikers can use the ferry as a means of transport between the villages on the south coast. However, it does not pay off when you take the ferry. It is worth to rent a car, as the airport-transfer from the Airport Heraklion is the same price as one week rental car.

+ The hidden beaches at the South of Crete from Agios Pavlos Sandhills to Triopetra and to the beach Ligres Beach

+ visit the picturesque south coast village Plakias and make a boat-trip to the Palm canyon Preveli. . The boat from Plakias to the mouth of the Palm canyon Preveli runs several times a day.. On your way back don´t miss to make a stop in the mountain village Spili

+ Visit the mountain village Archanes Crete´s largest wine producing region. We call this road to Archanes “the vintners´road”, as there are a variety of wine producers offering there wine and wine-testing in there winery. Archanes is one of the oldest charming mountain villages of Crete. To the west looms sacred mountain Juchtas surrounded by hills and numerous water springs.

+ Visit the archaelogical Museum of Heraklion, it is one of the most important Museums of Europe.

+ The archaeological site Knossos is the most important excavation of Crete. Sir Arthur John Evans the English archaeologist unearthing the palace of Knossos he discovered the oldest high culture of Europe the Minoan civilisation.

and then you continue southwards to the excavations of Phaistos

+ The off-road tour to the bay Agio Farago Beach; Please bear in mind that this tour can only be done with a Jeep or 4 x 4 vehicle! Or by boat from / to Plakias. This canyon is preferred by mountain climbers / mountain climbing clubs.
