Loutro is one-of-a-kind on Crete there is not one street connecting the village to the outside world, Loutro is a car-free-village. A regular ship traffic supplies this small village on the steep south coast. Comming from airport Chania dirving 70 km southward to the south-coast village Sfakia. There is a ferry-connection from the seaside village Sfakia tou the village Loutro.
If you missed the ferry, you can take the water taxi. We still recommend booking a rental car. You can leave your rental car in Chora Sfakion (Sfakia) at the port ( there is a parking space), from where you can also take the ferry to Loutro. You can buy the ferry tickets directly at the pier. The small town of Loutro is located in a bay surrounded by steep slopes. The pebble beach of Loutro always glows white. In contrast, the turquoise blue sea and the rugged mountains.
Most of the locals live in Chania in winter and from the start of the season to the end of the season in their hotels in Loutro. There are cozy taverns and cafes on the shore.
Every room is let in the summer season as most of the houses have been converted to hotels and apartments. The unique atmosphere will always find customers and the views are simply wonderful. Those who like hiking and being cut off from the world will feel at home here for a few days.
Beach -Spot in Loutro: 1 hour walk eastwards to the beach "Glikanera".
The beach is named after the underground freshwater springs.
The name Loutro means "the bathroom". In ancient times, Loutro was a "wellness place", ruins on the coast testify to this once popular seaside resort, which the ancient Greeks also appreciated very much.
From Loutro you can also walk to Finix Bay. It is a 30-minute walk westwards above the ferry dock.
You can go to Marmara Bay (narrow sand-pebble beach) and Likos Bay (sandy beach) by boat. The last boot from marmara back to loutro goes in the late afternoon.
