A very good location for exploring the nature reserves of western Crete such as the Balos lagoon, the Falassarna beaches, the Elafonissi lagoon, the Samaria Gorge and the Agia Irini gorge.
At the coastal village Tavronitis (3 km) or Kolimbari (5 km) there are shopping possibilities. Every Friday in Kolimbari there is the weekly market, where farmers offer their local products for sale.
The nightlife can be reached in about 10 km in the coastal village of Platanias or Agia Marina.
