Tours from Paleochora / English
Tour suggestions from Kreta.com for the south-west of Crete, on the trail of the "hippies":
Hidden bays for swimming, away from the tourist centres in the quaint southwest of Crete. Holidays in the southwest of Crete also mean that you must be motorized for discovering the beautiful, hidden bays and the most beautiful beaches. The public road network in the south is rather poorly developed.
Crete's southwest shines with hidden romantic bays and picturesque quaint villages like Plakias, Frangokastello, Loutro and Sougia. Holidays in an authentic, but also well-kept environment. The European hiking trail E4 shows its most beautiful side here.
We have put together the most beautiful tours for you:
The links lead you to the detailed descriptions of the places with photos and sometimes even with videos.
+ The
Samaria Gorge is from the northwest coast offered by bus as an 18 km long hike. The exit of the Samaria Gorge is the car-free village Agia Roumeli, from there hikers are brought by ferry to the neighbouring villages and back to the north by bus to their hotels. This tour cannot be done from Paleochora unless you plan to spend an overnight in the north.
But you can take the ferry from Paleochora on the south to the car-freevillage
Agia Roumeli to walk up until your legs can carry you, but then you have to go back to the village to take the ferry back to Paleochora , you have to stick to the ferry schedule. The hiking trail from Aigia Roumeli to the famous narrow pass and back takes about 2 ½ hours. This tour can also be carried out with children. The ferry trip is very impressive. You´ll see high mountains falling steeply into the sea.

The trips to the north and to the other neighboring villages in the south takes long time because you must drive around the mountains. That´s why the tour suggestions are all by ferry or by boat.
