South-Peloponnese, Stoupa is located on the southwestern side of the Mani Peninsula and has around 500 inhabitants. The coastal town is about 7 km south of Kardamili. The long, gently sloping sandy beach makes Stoupa as one of the most attractive location of the Mani Peninsula. Around Stoupa there are small bays with underground fresh water sources coming down from the Taygetus Mountains. Numerous restaurants, bars and taverns surround the long bay. Water sports are offerde offered. Stoupa is still very tranquil, the small beach promenade is closed to traffic in the evening.
The famous writer from Crete "Nikos Kazantzakis" also felt very comfortable here. He stayed here for a whole year 1917-1918 and started with his Roman "Alexis Sorbas", which later made him world famous.
